I was so inspired coming from a World Poetry Day celebration at Ayala Triangle one fine night of March.  It was first after so many years that I attended a poetry reading session.  I remember being forced to attend this literary thing back in my college dorm days at UP Yakal Residence Hall Open House week.  Never thought I would be drawn to poetry after 10 years. 🙂

On my way home that night as I’m patiently seated in my bus journey from Ayala to Quezon City I scribbled some lines and stanzas in Filipino.  And after a few days a full Tagalog poem is born.  Final draft written inside Starbucks Matalino, I’m so happy to post this poem on the very month of  August as we all celebrate “Buwan ng Wika”.

Ito ay aking handog para sa inyong lahat at nawa’y magsilbing inspirasyon upang ipagpatuloy ang pagsusulat sa wikang Filipino.

Ang Hinahanap

by: Reg Cagampan

Sa katahimikan ng umaga
hindi mapakali at aligaga
Ang kaginhawahang tinatamasa
iiwanan ba pansamantala
o sa lambot ng unan mananatili, maghihilik?

Sa bawat gabing pagkahimbing
laging may bumubulong sa dilim
Idinuduyan man ng panaginip
pakiwari’y gising na gising pa rin
ang diwang gustong makawala, lumaya.

Minsan kailangang lumayo, dumayo
taliwas sa nakasanayan ng puso
Sapakat minsan, hindi natin alam
na nasa kawalan doon matatagpuan
ang pinakakamimithi, ang hinahanap.

Authors Note:

A simple poem in full Filipino words I wrote one fine night of March.  Where else but at my second home Starbucks Matalino.  I need not say who the inspiration is; let’s keep it a secret for those who are clueless. 🙂

Dedicated to the singles out there.  To the jaded, bitter and even to the hopeful ones.  Just a disclaimer: this isn’t a true story, but I admit the 4th stanza came from the heart.  I just love writing Filipino poems these days.  Here it is.

Sa Aking Pag-iisa

Reg Cagampan

Matagal na ring binabagtas
ang pag-iisang hindi patas
Walang mga mapupulang rosas,
ang romantikong buwan ay pinapalampas.

Marami na rin ang nagdaan
na nauwi sa kabiguan
kaya nasanay na rin sa ganito
Ang tanong – maghihintay, aasa pa ba ako?

Pero bakit parang nag-iba ang ihip
kung kailan ayoko nang ipilit
Biglang may kumakalabit,
