Young actress Sue Ramirez made her appearance at the Travel Tour Expo 2017 on February 11, 2017 at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia, Manila. Sue invited everyone to visit the different booths at the Korea Tourism Pavilion at the travel expo and also to book a trip to Korea. The lovely Korea Tourism ambassador also performed onstage and sang “You Are My Everything” (Gummy), one of the songs in the official soundtrack of the mega hit 2016 Korean Drama Descendants of the Sun.

Ms. Ramirez then went straight to the Korea Tourism Pavilion and held a meet-and-greet session where around 50-100 fans and attendees at the travel expo got their chance to have some photo ops and signature from the actress.

Sue is one of the celebrity guests invited by Korea Tourism Organization Manila (KTO Manila) to help promote Korea on the  3-day annual travel expo. Comedian and TV host Ryan Bang and I Love OPM Grand Touristar Yohan Hwang were the other guests who appeared at the expo.

Mr. Inshik Park, Director of KTO Manila expressed his delight at the appointment of Ms. Ramirez as their honorary ambassador.  According to Mr. Park, Sue is the right choice as the she is very interested in Korean culture and as a rising star in Philippine showbiz with a million of followers in her social media accounts she has a great reach to promote Korea.

I was able to line up at the meet and greet and finally met her face to face.  As a fan of her, a lover of everything Korean and a KTO Manila WOW Korea Supporter (tasked to promote Korea tourism in social media) back in 2013, I am so happy to have this chance and felt like we are alike in so many ways. ♥♥♥

As of writing Sue is now in Seoul South Korea for her first ever trip in the enchanting Korean drama land as posted in her official Instagram account (@sueannadoodles) and at KTO Manila Facebook page.

With the Hallyu or korean wave craze everyone who has been bitten by the k-pop and Korean drama fever wanted to go to Korea. But where to go, how to go there and even what’s the best time to go, it seems overwhelming to plan one’s itinerary.  Places to visit goes beyond filming locations of Korean dramas and cafes owned by idols and actors as the growing interest in Korean food, cosmetic shopping, traditional Korean palaces and awesome sceneries of Korea have been widespread not to mention those k-pop concerts every fangirl needs to catch, these can’t seem to fit in the 4D/3N trip or even a week.

But in my 3 years of loving and promoting everything Korean there is just this organization, a website and a Facebook page that is a one stop shop when it comes to Korean Travel Guide. It’s the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) that can make your life easier.  Listed below are various media or way it can help anyone on exploring Korea at your own fingertips.

The VisitKorea website – Official Korea Tourism Organization website

the VisitKorea website as seen on mobile

the VisitKorea website as seen on mobile

This official website of Korea Tourism Organization http://english.visitkorea.or.kr/ provides various information on everything you need to know about Korea, and of course Korea travel.  This site includes but not limited to general info on Korea, its seasons, transportation system, recommended destinations and attractions, themed travel to food, shopping and accommodation. It’s really a one stop shop guide for travelling to Korea, hence I think it’s from where they get the name “Visit Korea”.  I can still remember how I discovered this site back in 2011 when I was googling about Korea’s seasons and when is the best time to fly.  I was just amazed when I landed on the page.  I didn’t only find the seasons but everything.  At that point in time my favorite part of what I saw on this Visit Korea website is the very comprehensive compilation list of filming locations of famous and well-loved Korean dramas.  From Secret Garden (which is the current fav at that time) to Boys Over Flowers, You Are Beautiful, Princess Hours to as far back as Winter Sonata they have it, and of course My Love From the Star is there.  Check this link for this amazing compilation and see for yourself  and enjoy planning of visiting Korea to see those dreamy filming locations. ^^

Oh did I mention that this site also hosts a lot of contests or “event” as they call it with various prizes at stake ranging from Korea souvenir items, gadgets and yes Trip to Korea. It’s truly everything about Korea. 🙂

The Korea Tourism Organization Facebook Page

This is the Facebook version of the VisitKorea website.  What’s amazing on this page is that every day it features one aspect of the website with a very enticing picture that you would want to click the link on it redirecting you to the website to discover more of what the picture is saying.  May it be a feature on the current season, a contest or a destination that is a must see.  One particular favorite post in this FB page is their Seoul Subway Tour series.  It features attractions per Subway line that would save your time and energy and helps tourist maximize their time in Seoul.  Amazing, awesomeness right, Thanks KTO!  Below are sample pictures from this Seoul Subway Tour album they have posted (Full credits to KTO).

Check below link for the full album post.

To those who are booked or are in planning stage of visiting Korea you really have to bookmark this.  So useful.  And of course like the Korea Tourism Organization Facebook page  for the whole experience. 🙂 Click here to get into the page https://www.facebook.com/koreatourism

The VisitKorea Mobile App

With the mobile phone era where every one seems to depend on their mobile phones and the increasing trend of “smart tour” where travelers prefer using mobile applications instead of traditional tour package program Korea Tourism Organization created this VisitKorea mobile app which offers in depth Korea travel information guide with user friendly design and even offers interactive on the go guide while you are at the moment in Korea.

So what does this application offers.  As you can see in the photo above it has categorized information on attractions, shopping, hotels and dining in Korea.  Essentially it is what you can find in the VisitKorea website but is more updated and handy since it’s on mobile.  Aside from this main feature it also boasts of Travel Highlights may it be a compilation of seasonal festivals or attractions or shopping destinations such as what you can see in the photo above (Beautiful cites at night).

You can also plan your itineraries via Travel Course which offers recommended/popular itineraries shared by other travelers.  You can also use it while you are on the go as this application can recommend what dining/shopping/attractions are near your location right at the moment you are in Korea.  For more information and sample navigation on the VisitKorea app you can go and click on this link.

By the way it also offers discounts and coupons so it’s really so cool.  What are you waiting for download it now.  It’s free and available in English, Chinese and Japanese languages.

Korea Travel Guide Books and e-books

For those who still prefer the traditional travel guide books and maps printed, Korea Tourism Organization still has them ready. Had my recent take-aways from the KTO Manila booth at the 2015 Korean Film Festival hosted by Korean Cultural Center Philippines below. That “Easy Korean Cooking” one is such a bonus that everyone wanted to have it. ^_^

20151025_175733

20151025_180210

And as these are usually available in a KTO sponsored or organized event friends asked me if I can get copies for them.  I know you can do this by contacting KTO Manila (in the Philippines case) online in Facebook at Korea Tourism Organization Manila Office or through twitter @KTOManila or you can drop by their office at Makati. I think you can also do this with other KTO Overseas offices in other countries. But don’t worry if you can’t have a printed copy since these are also available in e-book from the VisitKorea website. How great it is right. Click here for the e-book versions of Korea Travel Guide and more books from Korea Tourism Organization.

With all of these ways listed above I think anyone can travel and enjoy Korea with ease.  Thanks to Korea Tourism Organization that truly we can imagine, visit and explore Korea at our own fingertips.  Hopefully we all can say Annyeonghaseyo right there in Seoul soon.  Aja!  😀

Hope this blog post helped you.

Sending Korean Goodvibes,
pinkyreg ♥

After seeing one of the most popular South korean actor of all time Lee Min Ho last night (he was in Manila for the Kyochon Phillipines Grand Launch) this news just hit me in the heart as a person who dearly loves and promotes everything about Korea. A post of a friend in Facebook of which came from Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines and Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Philippines Facebook pages said that there are new requirements needed to get a South Korean Visa that will be effective by March 1, 2015.  Below is the original post in Facebook coming from the said Korean entities. Click here (Item No. 20) for reference on the original announcement.

Based on the announcement, they have added Bank statement for the last 3 months as a requirement in addition to Certificate of Employment (COE), Bank Certificate and ITR copy.  A more detailed Bank Certificate is also required now that should include account details such as type, current balance, account opening date and 6 months ADB (average daily balance). In addtion the COE requirement now has to have these details: applicant’s position, date hired, compensation, address, office landline and email address (I’m assuming these contact details pertains to employer’s).

For someone who has applied twice for a South Korean Visa and being approved on both cases my first impression here is really why are they somehow more keen and strict on adding these requirements. After relaxing the requirements on multiple entry visa in 2013 (see my blog post here for this) this is the next big shift from their original protocols.  Securing a South Korean Visa is by far one of the easiest to get compared to Japan or China mostly in terms of the bank and show money requirements but with this it seems the three now requires a detailed ADB meaning your account should really be active for some time. In a more positive note I think they have carefully thought of this and just want to be sure that tourist will come back home in the Philippines with the surge of Filipinos wanting to go to Korea both for vacation and work (I admit, myself included, its a dream LOL).

Just to share some light that in my personal experience I think having your bank account for some time and having your money intact for several months before applying for a Korean Visa did help me secure my very first SK visa. With only Php 25,000 show money back in 2010 that I opened around 9 months before Visa application I was approved and granted a Single-entry visa (Disclaimer: This amount might not be applicable for now as it is 5 years ago).  I was clueless then and that was all I have prior to application and surprised but yes I managed to be approved by just that. I think I got approved because I was working for around 5 years already with the same company and as far as I have researched employment is one the things they are looking into to determine if you really will go back to your home country more than the show money (strong economic and family ties with home country). Read this post (Item No. 7) on Visa denial reasons also from the Korean embassy website as reference.  And I have friends who got rejected because they are new to their job and still on a probationary level (less than 6 months with the company). What I’m saying is that more or less these details were already looked on before but are just formalized now.  I have  also read it before that date of account opening is a must in the Bank Certificate though my bank didn’t put it in the certificate I requested and mentioned that the Korean embassy are just calling them for more details during the application screening process. And the compensation and date hired in COE is already part of the required details before. For the 2 times I have applied what I have been providing contains all of the details mentioned (except for the address and see I got approved) and maybe they just aid them in verifying my employment. See this post (Item No. 4 – Updated Visa Requirements) on the detailed process and guidelines which is what’s been in effect prior to the announcement, also from the Korean embassy website.  Please refer to the last slide for reference on the examples I gave.

In the midst of this lil’ tightening or should I say expanded tourist Visa requirements to enter the land of k-pop and korean dramas I’m so thankful that my multiple entry visa that I got last October 2013 is still valid up to Oct of 2016, waahh! But of course I wanted to help and get more info on this to help friends and all those asking me tips on how to apply for a South Korean Visa and get approved.

I really don’t know the rationale for these new requirements, how will they evaluate the detailed Bank Certificate and Statements and what would be the impact to the % of approved Visa for Filipinos. I will try my best to get first hand info regarding this and share tips  in the coming days once it is already in effect by March, wahh! We all can do this, we will get an approved South Korean Visa if we will follow and submit all the requirements needed. After all one has to have savings aka extra money to fly to Seoul. Aja! 🙂

Disclaimer: Info above except for the news/announcement/links part from the Embassy of South Korea in the Philippines are just my opinion and not full proof that you will get approved of a South Korean Visa.  Its best to submit all the requirements and fill out the application form leaving no blanks (put N/A if not applicable) for great chances of having your application approved.
